The first amendment is perhaps one of the most important protections granted to us as Americans by the Constitution. But it has its limits. For instance, you can’t run into a crowded movie theater and yell: “FIRE!” The Supreme Court determines the limits based on if speech presents a “clear and present danger.”

The Westboro Baptist Church is a cult. A sick and perverted cult which believes, among other things, that their children should be beat to “know the love of God,” that “AIDS cures fags,” and that protesting soldiers funerals is the right thing to do because America is being punished for it’s ignorance of God’s law.

At what point did these people forget that Jesus also said “love thy neighbor?” It’s so convenient when evangelical groups such as these forget that God is love. Now I’m not the most religious man, but I do believe that if there is a God, that protesting funerals isn’t his/her/its idea of a good time.

Get it together freaks. God’s not impressed.

Not that anyone is reading this or that anybody cares…

I hate talking about my job, even though it seems that I do it all the time. I have a good job and I like it (for the most part) but I worry that I can sometimes come off as self-rightous about it. I don’t want to seem like I feel like my job is any more important than anyone else’s but I sometimes find that people take it that way. I do important work sure, but everyone has their place, mine just so happens to be here.

The absurdity of what I do often hits me at completely inopertune moments. Like today: I was supervising a visit for kids that I absolutely don’t think should go home and I realized that I juggle people’s lives. I juggle them. This family’s life depends, in part, on what I think should happen.

Who am I?

How did I get here? How did I somehow get to the point where other people’s outcomes are dependent on my actions? It’s completely absurd. I was messaging back and forth with my cousin and we were joking about how we judge people and I made the crack that I judge professionally but now it’s called “clinical perspective.” Actually, kind of the truth. How did my crazed and adolescent judgement become “clinical perspective?”

Absurd. Everyday at work is completely absurd yet that’s my normality now. I juggle people’s lives. If only I could manage my own.
